The lost and found program at the Sarasota Manatee Airport Authority is managed in accordance with Florida Statutes. The Sarasota Manatee Airport Authority Police Department is responsible for the application and administration of the program. Items are turned in from a variety of sources around the Airport each day to us. We are proactive and reunite a large number of our customers with their items every month.

In order to claim a lost item the Sarasota Manatee Airport Authority Police Department requires proof that you are the legitimate owner of the item. Items are held for 90 days. Depending on the item and its possible value additional proof may be required. Items are available for release during normal business hours (8:00 am - 4:00 pm) Monday thru Friday.  If you have any questions please contact Mr. Michael Jones at 941-359-5200 (4279).

In many cases the lost items have been left on an airplane. We will provide you with the telephone number for the airline lost and found department if the item has not been turned in to the airport.

Look Before You Leave

The airport sincerely hopes our guests take good care with their personal possesions; but we also understand people occasionally forget things when rushed or in unfamiliar surroundings. When traveling, regardless where in the world you may be, please take a few extra moments to check your surroundings before moving from one airport area to another. Taking a little extra time can help avoid a misfortunate situation.

Some tips that might save you from losing an item:

  • When you leave your hotel or condo, always do a complete sweep of every room including looking in each drawer and every closet before closing the door behind you when you leave. Check outlets for chargers.
  • When returning a rental car, check each compartment and the trunk for personal items such as cell phones, chargers or glasses.
  • Always check to make sure you have all your posessions before leaving the security screening area.
  • Before deplaning an aircraft check the overhead compartment and under the seat In front of you for items that might have fallen out of your carry-on luggage. Take a look in the seat back if you used it to store an item during your flight.
  • Keep an eye on your children's belongings.
